Lunar New Year Gift-a-Meal |
While the Year of the Tiger in 2022 was characterized by strength, vitality and growth, the rabbit embodies many of the opposite traits: relaxation, fluidity, quietness and contemplation. The Year of the Rabbit has many themes, including longevity, peace, and prosperity. Above all, the Year of the Rabbit in 2023 represents hope. At Send Chinatown Love, we have many hopes for our community, which we work to uplift and amplify every day. Our mission is to respond to the needs of Asian-owned businesses by providing customized services and resources, while creating opportunities for our community to connect with Asian-owned businesses. Lunar New Year is the most important holiday for many Asian countries, and is commonly celebrated by gathering with loved ones to share a large meal. Despite this tradition, many in our communities are still faced with food insecurity. Our hope for 2023 is to continue uplifting our communities and supporting our small businesses. Join us in sending love to those in need with a donation to our Gift-a-Meal fund. In the Year of the Rabbit, we hope to grow and sustain our Gift-a-Meal campaigns, broadening our impact on merchants and the community, all of which is made possible thanks to donors like you. Our goal is to raise $23,000 between January 20 – February 20, 2023 to support these future efforts. CAMPAIGN IS CLOSED

THE IMPACT
We run our Gift-a-Meal program because food insecurity within our community is at record highs, surging over 36% citywide during the pandemic—and 46% among children, according to Feeding America.
Over 1.5 million New Yorkers now experience food insecurity, including one in four children. But hunger doesn’t fall equally across the city. It hits particularly hard in the communities of color that have been disproportionately harmed by decades of policy inequities and systemic failures. Many City agencies also struggle to adapt and expand their food-provision programs to meet specific cultural or dietary needs. Send Chinatown Love’s Gift-a-Meal program tackles food insecurity across NYC, while at the same time supporting Chinatown merchants – doubling the impact of your contribution. Our program purchases meals from small Chinatown businesses and gives them to local community organizations who distribute those meals to people in need. |
VOLUNTEER WITH US
Send Chinatown Love is a not-for-profit, volunteer-run organization based in New York City.
Founded in March 2020, Send Chinatown Love supports the small businesses in NYC’s nine Chinatowns in many ways – direct financial donations, pro-bono business development consulting, storytelling via social media, and an impactful Gift-a-Meal program that works with Chinatown restaurants to feed underserved and vulnerable communities in partnership with local community-based organizations. With all initiatives, Send Chinatown Love hopes to build a more resilient future for these businesses and for NYC’s Chinatowns. SUPPORT & EXPLORE CHINATOWN
As our community of Send Chinatown Love merchants grows, we’ve streamlined how we receive donations to better serve the needs of our merchants. We’re still committed to sending 100% of donation proceeds to Chinatowns' small businesses.
