Lunar New Year Gift-a-Meal |
Lunar New Year is a time to come together with family and friends over shared meals of delicious and auspicious foods. However, many people in our community face challenges, including hunger and food insecurity, which has gotten worse during the COVID-19 pandemic. By connecting Chinatown merchants with community organizations, Send Chinatown Love’s Gift-a-Meal program has the double impact of tackling food insecurity across NYC, while at the same time supporting Chinatown businesses.
As we begin the new year of the Tiger, we are committing $150,000+ to fund Gift-a-Meal campaigns throughout the month of February. We will be partnering with 30+ Chinatown merchants and 25+ community distribution partners to serve over 12,000 meals* to low-income families, unhoused community members, and vulnerable seniors across NYC. * Meal counts include hot meals, fresh groceries or household essentials
Join us in sending love to those in need with a donation to our Gift-a-Meal fund. In the Year of the Tiger, we hope to grow and sustain our Gift-a-Meal campaigns, broadening our impact on merchants and the community, all of which is made possible thanks to donors like you.
Our goal is to raise $28,000 during the month of February to support these future efforts. Total Raised: $

ON FOOD INSECURITY
|
We run our Gift-a-Meal program because food insecurity within our community is at record highs, surging over 36% citywide during the pandemic—and 46% among children, according to Feeding America.
Over 1.5 million New Yorkers now experience food insecurity, including one in four children. But hunger doesn’t fall equally across the city. It hits particularly hard in the communities of color that have been disproportionately harmed by decades of policy inequities and systemic failures. Many City agencies also struggle to adapt and expand their food-provision programs to meet specific cultural or dietary needs. |
OUR LUNAR NEW YEAR IMPACT

OUR MERCHANTS
During this month, we have pulled in 32 merchants to receive funds and contribute hot meals, fresh groceries or household essentials to support our community.
OUR DISTRIBUTION PARTNERS
We are honored to partner with distributors that will help us reach BIPOC, AAPI, senior citizens, and unhoused communities across NYC. They are helping us address food insecurity across NYC while increasing accessibility to culturally appropriate meals.
